Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy aims to enable and support you to participate in everyday life. Our occupational therapists do this through therapy sessions based around your goals, and by working with you and your community to modify your environment or occupation.

Types of assessments or treatments carried out by our occupational therapists include:

Paediatric Occupational Therapy

  • We aim to assist children in developing skills needed to enable them to be independent and successful in participating in daily activities

  • Gross Motor Skills - e.g. muscle strength, joint stability, endurance, balance, coordination, motor planning

  • Fine Motor Skills - e.g. hand and finger strength, dexterity, manipulation, handwriting, cutting, buttoning, using eating utensils

  • Sensory Processing Abilities - e.g. over / under-sensitivities to sounds, lights, touch, movement, taste; body awareness; regulation

  • Self-care skills - e.g. dressing, feeding, drinking, showering, teeth brushing, toileting, grooming

Functional Capacity Assessment

Our Occupational Therapist can conduct thorough assessment of the participant’s current functional and support needs ahead of a review of the participant’s current NDIS funding. The purpose of the functional assessment is to provide a summary of the participant’s functional status and support needs, identify assistive technologies and home modifications required to promote and maintain safety and independence, and provide a summary of outcomes of current interventions, and recommendations for further occupational therapy intervention required regarding the review and approval of the participant’s next NDIS Plan.

Assistive Technology Assessment

  • Assistive technology (AT) is equipment or devices that help you do things you can’t do because of your disability.

  • For HCP/CHSP clients, Occupational Therapists can recommend appropriate equipment for the client and provide report to support the client's needs.

  • For clients under NDIS, our Occupational Therapists can assist participants to decide whether the participant can simply purchase the AT out of consumables, the participant can simply apply for replacement AT, or the participant will require an Assistive Technology Request to be submitted to the NDIA. We can assist with simple AT or complex and customised AT, such as a power wheelchair or recliner chair.

SIL & SDA Assessment

Our Occupational Therapist can conduct thorough assessment to determine Supported Independent Living (SIL) and the type of support required by the participant in their daily tasks, and to determine suitability for Supported Disability Accommodation (SDA). The purpose of the assessment and report is to outline the participant’s current function and make recommendations regarding the most appropriate placement for Supported Disability Accommodation (SDA) so that informal supports are sustained, and the participant will be provided with necessary supports over time.

Home Modification

Home modifications can be simple or complex based on Occupational Therapist’s recommendation and design.

We can connect you with qualified builders that can complete the recommended simple home modifications, this may include but not limited to grabrails and handrails, hand-held shower hoses, internal and external ramps, and steps modification. We also work alongside different Home Modification Providers who are qualified and experienced to complete complex modifications, such as major bathroom modification, and changes in the layout in the kitchen and bedroom.
